Ramadan Aid and Community Support in Zarzis

During the month of Ramadan, there is a great deal of talk about assistance and support from affluent individuals, as well as the offers provided by the Tunisian Union of Social Solidarity and the Red Crescent—not to mention the collections for Ramadan food baskets.

The generosity of citizens is also evident, as always, through the establishment of “Restaurants du Cœur” (Heart Restaurants). In fact, the Zarzis delegation spans several hectares.

Existing Heart Restaurants

Five Heart Restaurants have already been set up to serve those in need or without families, such as Sub‑Saharan Africans, Syrians, and anyone passing through the city at the time of iftar (the breaking of the fast).

The locations of these restaurants were carefully chosen, although a sixth restaurant is still missing at the bus station. The other sites are as follows:

  • South entrance of the city – serving travelers from Ben Guerdane or Libya’s Chekirben
  • West side – the largest facility, El‑Mouensa
  • City centre – simply named Zarzis
  • East side, near the hospital – Dhouiher
  • North of the cityHassi Jerbi

How the Aid Is Distributed

  • Dine‑in: Beneficiaries can sit at a table and eat on the premises.
  • Take‑away: Others receive food parcels to take home.

These coordinated efforts highlight the strong spirit of solidarity that characterises Ramadan in Zarzis, bringing together NGOs, charitable groups, and ordinary citizens to ensure that no one goes hungry during this sacred month.
