West Nile Fever Case Reported in Zaghouan Governorate

The health services of the Zaghouan governorate recorded a case of West Nile fever last week in a 68-year-old man, according to Nabil El Ourfelli, Deputy Director of Primary Health Care.

In a statement to the Tunis Afrique Presse (TAP) agency, El Ourfelli explained that the patient underwent laboratory tests after presenting symptoms similar to those of West Nile fever. The infection, transmitted by a mosquito, was confirmed, and the patient was immediately admitted to the intensive care unit of the Zaghouan Regional Hospital at the beginning of the week for treatment.

He added that the health services had requested the patient's son, a young man in his thirties, to undergo tests after experiencing similar symptoms.

El Ourfelli emphasized that this was the second case recorded in the Zaghouan governorate since last August, after the death of a man from the city of El Fahs on August 21 at the regional hospital, due to the same disease. He called on all municipalities to intensify insecticide spraying campaigns and eliminate stagnant water, which provides a conducive environment for insect breeding.
