Agricultural Development Commission in Zaghouan Releases 5,500 Ladybugs to Combat Cactus Pests

The Agricultural Development Commission in Zaghouan has recently released 5,500 ladybugs to fight against the cactus cochineal. The head of plant production at the commission, Fredj Hichri, told the TAP Agency that a 64 km treatment operation was carried out, particularly in Nadhour, Saouaf, and Zriba, where the prickly pear cactus crop was affected by the cochineal infestation. He called on producers to adhere to biological control against the cactus cochineal through the dispersion of ladybugs, which are available at the citrus technical center. The area cultivated with prickly pear cacti in the region amounts to 2,700 hectares.
