XPENG, Chinese Electric Vehicle Brand, Officially Launches Operations in Tunisia

XPENG Unveils First Showroom in La Marsa, Tunisia

XPENG, a leading Chinese electric vehicle brand, has officially launched its operations in Tunisia with the inauguration of its first showroom in La Marsa. This move marks the company's ambitions to tap into a growing but still emerging market that is transitioning towards electric and connected mobility.

During the launch ceremony, Mehdi Mahjoub, General Manager of XPCARS Tunisia, emphasized the company's commitment to embracing technological changes in the automotive sector. He stated that "mobility is undergoing a significant turning point" driven by evolving consumer behaviors, digitalization, and changing expectations.

"We're not here to follow the trend, but to participate in shaping the future of mobility," Mahjoub declared, highlighting a vision centered on innovation, artificial intelligence, and user experience.

Mahjoub highlighted the potential of the Tunisian market, noting that "Tunisia is ready to welcome innovative technologies" and gradually transition towards a more sustainable energy mix. However, he acknowledged that the development of electric mobility in the country faces several challenges, including infrastructure constraints.

According to Mahjoub, these challenges should be seen as opportunities to build, innovate, and collaborate with public and private stakeholders to support the sector's evolution.

XPENG is introducing three electric models to the Tunisian market: the SUV G6 (starting at 119,950 Dinar Tunisien TTC), G9 (starting at 175,950 Dinar Tunisien TTC), and the sedan P7+ (127,950 Dinar Tunisien TTC). The brand is particularly emphasizing the advanced technological features of its vehicles, including the X-PILOT driver assistance system, over-the-air software updates, mobile connectivity, and fast charging capabilities.

In its statement, the company aims to position itself as a technology-driven actor rather than a traditional automaker. XPENG is developing an ecosystem that integrates software, embedded intelligence, and connected services.

Mahjoub also announced plans to gradually expand the company's network in Tunisia, with the La Marsa showroom serving as the first step in a national expansion plan.

Beyond the commercial aspect, XPENG's arrival in Tunisia coincides with the country's efforts to accelerate its energy transition and reduce its dependence on fossil fuels. However, the electric vehicle market remains limited due to high vehicle costs, lack of charging infrastructure, and an underdeveloped ecosystem.

In this context, the entry of new players specializing in electric mobility could help revitalize a still-nascent sector, as the Tunisian authorities continue to launch initiatives related to energy transition and sustainable mobility.
