World Bank Commitment to Strengthen Partnership with Tunisia
The Regional Infrastructure Director at the World Bank (WB) for the Middle East and North Africa region, Almud Weitz, emphasized the World Bank's commitment to strengthening its partnership with Tunisia during a meeting held on Monday with the Minister of Industry, Mines, and Energy, Fatma Thabet Chiboub. The goal of this partnership is to help Tunisia achieve its objective of diversifying its energy sources.
Almud Weitz, who is on her first working visit to Tunisia, praised the efforts made by the Ministry of Industry's structures to develop energy infrastructure, according to a statement published by the Department of Industry.
For her part, the Minister welcomed the level of bilateral cooperation with the World Bank Group, stressing the importance of benefiting from the Bank's expertise and developing cooperation to create new projects that adopt clean energy and reduce carbon and greenhouse gas emissions.
The meeting reviewed the progress of implementing several projects financed by the Bank in the energy sector, including the Tunisia-Italy submarine electric interconnection project (ELMED) and the national electricity grid development project.
Discussions also focused on the technical and logistical challenges related to the implementation of certain projects and ways to overcome them, as well as action programs for the next period.
