Joint Ministerial Decree Strengthens Protection for Tunisian Workers Against Occupational Accidents and Diseases
A joint decree by the Ministers of Social Affairs and Health, published in the Official Journal, has reinforced the protection of Tunisian workers against occupational accidents and diseases. This new text brings significant modifications to better compensate and support victims.
Update on Occupational Diseases
The decree, which amends the one from January 10, 1995, updates 52 of the 86 tables related to occupational diseases. According to Lotfi Mahjoub, Director General of the Occupational Medicine Inspection, this update is a revision of existing texts, without adding new diseases. The last major revision dated back to 2022, with the integration of COVID-19 into the list.
More Flexibility for Workers
This new regulation offers direct benefits to victims:
- Extended coverage: The duration of coverage for victims of occupational accidents and diseases has been extended.
- Simplified procedures: Workers benefit from more flexibility in constituting their compensation files.
- Extended deadlines: The deadlines for providing the necessary complementary exams for the instruction of files have been extended, allowing for a better evaluation of the causes.
New Professions Covered
Furthermore, the decree adds new professions to the list of those covered by occupational accident compensation. This is a significant step forward in ensuring better protection for a larger number of employees.
