Tunis Court of Appeals Confirms Guilt of Nine Sales Agents

The correctional chamber near the Court of Appeals of Tunis has confirmed the guilt of nine "Habbata" sales agents, while reducing their prison sentences to six and eight months, with the financial fines remaining in place.

The Correctional Chamber of the Court of First Instance of Ben Arous had initially sentenced twelve sales agents (Habbata) to prison terms ranging from two to seven years, accompanied by fines. These individuals had been arrested and detained by the Sub-Directorate of Economic and Financial Investigations of the Judicial Police Directorate of Al-Gorjani, on suspicion of monopoly, market speculation, and price manipulation.

The arrested sales agents appealed the judgments pronounced against them. The Court of Appeals of Tunis then decided to confirm their conviction for the facts attributed to them, while reducing the prison sentences to six and eight months for some of them, and pronouncing a suspended sentence for others, however, maintaining the initial financial fines.
