During the shooting that occurred on Sunday at Bondi Beach in Sydney, a man of Arab origin, Ahmed Al-Ahmad, became a symbol of courage after managing to disarm one of the attackers. The attack resulted in 16 deaths and approximately 40 injuries. Video footage shows a bystander jumping onto the back of one of the shooters to wrestle away their gun amidst the chaos. Ahmed Al-Ahmad was shot twice in the hand and shoulder during his intervention. His relative, Mustafa Al-Asaad, indicated that his health condition was stable and that he was scheduled to undergo surgery to remove the bullets. According to the family, Al-Ahmad was unaware of the identity or motivations of the victims and acted spontaneously upon seeing people fall. US President Donald Trump described him as "very, very brave" and emphasized that "he saved many lives," while Australian authorities described him as a "hero" due to his audacity.
