WhatsApp Introduces New Feature to Filter Incoming Messages from Unknown Contacts
WhatsApp, the instant messaging application owned by American company Meta, has announced the development of a new feature for the Android system that will allow users to filter incoming messages from unknown contacts into a new section of messages. This feature has been deployed in the latest beta version.
According to WABetaInfo, a website specializing in WhatsApp news, this section will be named "Requests Folder". This feature will not block or prevent the arrival of messages, but it will allow users to control how messages from unknown contacts are displayed in the application.
The new WhatsApp privacy setting, titled "Who can message me", offers two main options to users:
- Everyone: This is the default option for all accounts. It means that any new message from an unknown contact will appear directly in the chat list.
- My Contacts: This option provides better control by directing messages from unknown contacts to a separate section called "Requests".
When a user receives a message from someone who is not in their contacts, the message is moved to this section instead of the main chat list. This way, users can separate known contacts from new or unknown individuals.
Users will be able to view details such as the sender's name, profile picture, and the content of the received message before deciding to respond, delete, report, or block the contact.
This new feature will improve privacy by preventing unsolicited or unwanted messages from appearing in the main chat list.
