Tunisia to Participate in World Weightlifting Championships

Tunisia will take part in the World Weightlifting Championships, scheduled to take place from October 2 to 11 in Forde, Norway. The country will be represented by the duo Ghofrane Belkhir and Aymen Bacha.

In a statement to the Tunisian news agency TAP, national coach Ridha Al-Ayachi, responsible for preparing Ghofrane Belkhir, indicated that the weightlifter, who will compete in the 58 kg category, underwent a first training session in Nabeul in June. A second training session is currently underway in Hammamet from September 3 to 29. The team will depart for Norway on September 30, and Belkhir will participate in the competition on October 4.

Al-Ayachi explained that Ghofrane Belkhir, who won gold in the snatch and total at the 2021 World Senior Championships in Tashkent (Uzbekistan), aims to rank among the top ten. She also seeks to gradually regain her best level after a relatively long period of absence from competitions.

On his part, national coach Béchir Toumi, who oversees the preparation of Aymen Bacha, confirmed that the Tunisian weightlifter, who will compete in the 110 kg category, aims to return to the world podium. He wishes to enrich his record after winning silver in the snatch at the 2024 World Championships in Manama (Bahrain) and bronze in the snatch at the 2022 World Championships in Bogota (Colombia).

Toumi added that Aymen Bacha underwent a first training session in Hammamet before a long training stay in Turkey. He will fly to Norway on October 4 and enter the competition on October 10.
