Weather Alert: Northern Governorates Placed on Orange Alert
All northern governorates, including Bizerte, Greater Tunis, Nabeul, Zaghouan, Siliana, Béjà, and Jendouba, have been placed on orange alert by the National Institute of Meteorology (INM) due to expected weather disturbances and strong winds.
Yellow Alert Issued for Other Regions
Meanwhile, a yellow alert has been issued for all other regions of the country.
Expected Weather Conditions
According to the updated weather alert map, issued on Wednesday afternoon, temporary thunderstorms and intense rainfall are expected, with hail possible in some areas. Strong to very strong winds, temporarily exceeding 100 km/h in gusts, are also forecasted, causing sandstorms in the south and reducing horizontal visibility.
Potential Disruptions
The INM warns that the wind may disrupt human activities, making local travel conditions difficult and potentially affecting air and sea transportation. Power and phone networks may also be damaged, and tree branches may break. The INM recommends:
- Staying informed about the weather situation
- Exercising caution
- Being mindful of falling trees or objects
- Avoiding intervention on rooftops
- Securing objects exposed to the wind
Purpose of Weather Alerts
The weather alert aims to raise awareness about potential dangers associated with a weather situation. It also informs civil security services and health authorities, enabling them to alert and mobilize intervention teams and health professionals.
Updated Weather Alerts
A weather alert map is updated at least twice a day, at 7:00 AM and 5:00 PM, to signal potential dangers threatening one or more governorates within the next 24 hours.
