Tunisia Experiences Severe Weather Disruptions
Tunisia has been experiencing a series of significant weather disruptions for over three weeks, due to the successive arrival of atmospheric depressions from the northwest, primarily from Europe and the northern Mediterranean, according to Professor Zouhair Helioui, a climate science expert.
Speaking on Express FM, Helioui explained that these depressions strengthen as they cross the Mediterranean, which is still relatively warm, resulting in abundant rainfall and strong winds in several regions of the country. He noted that this situation is not linked to a single factor, but rather to a complex climate system with strongly interacting elements, also impacting other Mediterranean countries such as Spain, southern Italy, and Morocco.
Weather Forecast
"For the coming days, Tunisia may experience further disruptions, particularly on Tuesday and possibly Friday, but their intensity is expected to be lower than the current period," he said. "These fluctuations will mainly result in light to moderate rainfall, concentrated in the north, and will remain limited in the center and south of the country."
Helioui added that the climate is expected to gradually stabilize with the arrival of spring, a period characterized by an increase in atmospheric pressure, leading to a decrease in wind speed and the intensity of disruptions.
Precautions and Safety Measures
The professor concluded his intervention by emphasizing the importance of following official bulletins from the National Institute of Meteorology (INM) and taking necessary precautions, particularly in areas under orange alert, to limit the risks associated with strong winds and precipitation.
