National Meteorological Institute Issues Yellow Alert for Northern and Central Regions
The National Meteorological Institute (INM) placed all regions in the north and center of the country on yellow alert on Tuesday, due to expected meteorological disturbances in the coming hours. The affected governorates are:
- Bizerte
- Greater Tunis
- Nabeul
- Béja
- Jendouba
- Siliana
- Le Kef
- Zaghouan
- Sousse
- Monastir
- Mahdia
- Kairouan
- Kasserine
- Sidi Bouzid
According to the INM, the meteorological situation is marked by the formation of local thunderstorm cells, accompanied by sometimes intense rainfall and hail in some areas. Strong to very strong winds, potentially exceeding 70 km/h in gusts and during thunderstorms, are also expected.
The institute reminds that a yellow alert implies particular attention when engaging in activities sensitive to meteorological risks. It aims to alert the population to potential dangers, as well as to enable civil protection services and health authorities to mobilize their teams if needed.
The alert map is updated at least twice a day, at 7am and 5pm, and allows for the reporting of meteorological threats that may affect one or more governorates within the next 24 hours.
