Crackdown on Illegal Water Consumption: SONEDE Strengthens Control and Monitoring Measures
The National Water Exploitation and Distribution Company (SONEDE) is ramping up its control and monitoring efforts to combat the surge in illegal water consumption. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Water Resources, and Fishing, SONEDE ensures the surveillance of water supply systems and draws up reports as soon as unauthorized consumption is detected through its specialized technical teams.
Enhanced Measures
Since 2021, this crackdown has been reinforced by the appointment of sworn agents responsible for establishing reports directly at the scene of the offenses. These procedures aim to strengthen the effectiveness of sanctions and protect water resources, which are essential for agriculture and the population.
Judicial Proceedings
All recorded reports are transmitted to the competent judicial and security authorities, which rule on each case and assess the financial losses suffered by SONEDE due to these thefts.
National Strategy
This approach is part of a national strategy to ensure the sustainable and secure management of water resources, in a context where their preservation has become a crucial challenge for the country. By strengthening its control and monitoring measures, SONEDE is playing a key role in protecting Tunisia's water resources and ensuring their efficient use.
