Agriculture Minister Calls for Acceleration of Agricultural Development Projects

Tunisia's Minister of Agriculture, Water Resources, and Fisheries, Ezzedine Ben Cheikh, has urged the acceleration of various agricultural development projects, reaffirming the government's commitment to prioritizing water governance.

Speaking at a working meeting focused on the regional agricultural development commissions (CRDA) of Kairouan and La Manouba, the minister emphasized the urgent need for a rational and sustainable management of water resources. In this context, he ordered that absolute priority be given to maintaining hydraulic networks and ensuring a steady supply of potable water during the summer of 2026.

Ben Cheikh also called for measures to combat the phenomenon of unauthorized water connections, which is the main cause of disruptions to the distribution networks. Furthermore, he announced the launch of an initiative to establish a risk management system for corruption in the water sector.

In this regard, he requested the strict application of good governance principles in the management of human resources, supply, and remuneration systems.

Regarding the livestock dossier, the minister ordered the acceleration of the national program for identifying livestock and updating the database of breeders. He noted that the reliability of these data is a necessary condition for ensuring a transparent and equitable distribution of subsidized animal feed, improving the sanitary monitoring of livestock, and preventing epizootic risks.
