SONEDE Prepares for Summer 2026 by Launching Large-Scale Maintenance Operation
As the summer season approaches, the Société Nationale d'Exploitation et de Distribution des Eaux (SONEDE) is gearing up to meet the demands of the upcoming tourist season. The public company has announced a major preventive maintenance operation targeting strategic infrastructure on the island, including the Mezraya seawater desalination plant and the main water conduits of the Midoun delegation.
Scheduled Water Cuts Ahead
While necessary to secure future water supply, this large-scale intervention will have consequences for users. Dry water cuts are expected from midnight on Monday, May 11, to Tuesday, May 12. The most affected areas include the Midoun delegation, the tourist zone, and several localities in Houmt Souk such as Ghiren, Mezraya, Sedghiane, Fatou, and the road leading to Midoun. The rest of the island of Djerba will also experience significant pressure drops and service disruptions.
SONEDE's Response
To minimize the inconvenience caused, SONEDE has mobilized its teams for a non-stop operation, working 24 hours a day. According to the planned schedule, water distribution will be restored progressively from Wednesday, May 13, around 8 PM.
Preparation is Key
In light of this 48-hour interruption, SONEDE's management urges residents and tourism professionals to take necessary precautions and stock up on sufficient water reserves before the start of the works.
