Progress of Water Desalination Project in Menzel Bouzaïene, Meknassy, and Mezouna Delegations Exceeds 70%
The progress of the water desalination project in the delegations of Menzel Bouzaïene, Meknassy, and Mezouna, with a cost of 46 million dinars, has exceeded 70%, according to Haïthem Allagui, head of the Sidi Bouzid governorate region of the Tunisian Water Exploitation and Distribution Company (SONEDE). In a statement made on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, to the Tunis Afrique Presse (TAP) agency, Allagui specified that the exploitation of the planned wells for the project has already begun in order to strengthen the water resources in the concerned delegations, while waiting for the completion of the works within a period not exceeding 12 months.
Project Details
The project includes:
- Drilling of 10 wells
- Construction of a desalination plant in Meknassy with a capacity of 4,000 cubic meters per day
- Building of 4 pumping stations and an evaporation basin in Meknassy
- Laying of 80 km of pipelines It also provides for:
- Equipping water sterilization facilities and a remote control system
- Electrification works
- Acquisition of land and various hydraulic equipment The project aims to reinforce the water resources in the concerned delegations, improving the living conditions of the local population.
