French Ambassador to Tunisia Addresses Visa Challenges and Strength of Bilateral Relations
The French Ambassador to Tunisia, Anne Guéguen, has stated that the issuance of visas to Tunisian citizens continues to face administrative and procedural difficulties, despite efforts made by French consular services. In an interview on Mosaïque FM, the diplomat indicated that the embassy is aware of these obstacles and is working to reduce them. "We are making significant efforts, and this has yielded concrete results," she declared. According to the figures provided, approximately 105,000 Schengen visas were issued to Tunisians in 2024, with an acceptance rate of around 60%. While this volume confirms the importance of human exchanges between the two countries, it remains marked by the complexity of procedures. Anne Guéguen explained that the multiplicity of visa types leads to different rules and deadlines, which can sometimes result in delays in scheduling appointments and processing applications.
Beyond Visa Issues: Strong Bilateral Relations
Beyond the issue of visas, the ambassador highlighted the quality of bilateral relations. She emphasized that the ties between Tunis and Paris remain "solid and positive," recalling that they are based on a cooperation deemed beneficial to both parties. This cooperation is reflected in partnerships in higher education, scientific research, and cultural exchanges. Many joint programs promote academic mobility and training, with the goal of strengthening skills and consolidating bridges between the two societies.
A Shared Commitment to Development
Despite the challenges related to consular procedures, the diplomat insisted on the common will to further develop relations. "Tunisia and France share a common history and interests. We are working to make this partnership a lever for prosperity and openness," she concluded. The ambassador's statement underscores the commitment of both countries to strengthen their ties and overcome administrative hurdles, paving the way for increased cooperation and exchange in various fields.
