Ministry of Equipment Reinforces Road and Highway Control
The Ministry of Equipment is strengthening control over roads and highways, with financial penalties ranging from 110 to 1,100 dinars for dumping waste, abandoned vehicles, or unauthorized installations, in collaboration with the Ministry of Interior and through video surveillance.
The Ministry of Equipment and Housing has allocated 21.6 million dinars for the cleaning and maintenance of road sides, confirmed Zina Dkhil, Deputy Director of the Road Maintenance and Operation Department.
In a statement to National Radio, Ms. Dkhil also specified that this amount remains insufficient given the extent of the Tunisian road network and that cleaning and maintenance operations are carried out by both ministry teams and private companies, small and large, specialized in this field.
Ms. Dkhil further recalled that offenses against the public road domain are punishable by financial penalties ranging from 110 to 1,100 dinars, depending on the nature of the offense:
- Dumping rubble, earth, plant remains, or domestic garden waste on the public road domain: 1,100 dinars
- Dumping oils or hazardous liquids on concrete, roads, their dependencies, stormwater drainage infrastructure, green spaces, and other public spaces: 660 dinars
- Abandoning or parking a vehicle or its carcass on the public road domain or in the service areas intended for it: 550 dinars
- Installing buildings or kiosks on the public road domain: 110 dinars
The official added that the ministry is working closely with the Ministry of Interior to monitor offenses and has called for strengthened video surveillance to ensure compliance with laws and protect the public road domain.
