Shooting Incident in Southport, North Carolina
At least three people were killed and eight others injured on Saturday evening after a shooter on a boat opened fire on a waterfront bar in Southport, North Carolina, local media reported. The shooter fired into the crowd at around 9:30 p.m. Saturday (1:30 GMT Sunday) at the Southport Yacht Basin, according to ChyAnn Ketchum, the city's public information officer, who added that a person of interest was being questioned. During a press conference on Sunday at around 1:00 a.m. (5:00 GMT), Southport Police Chief Todd Coring stated that there was no active threat to the community at the present time. He also noted that it was still too early to determine the shooter's motivations.
