UK to Impose Visa Restrictions on Certain Countries

The UK Home Secretary plans to ban nationals from three countries from obtaining entry visas to the UK if their governments fail to take back their illegal migrants. According to the UK's PA Media agency, three African countries - Angola, Namibia, and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) - will face visa sanctions, preventing their tourists, high-ranking officials, and businessmen from traveling to the UK if they do not offer increased cooperation in the process of deporting illegal migrants. The Times newspaper also mentioned that this measure is inspired by procedures adopted by Kirstjen Nielsen, Secretary of Homeland Security under the administration of US President Trump. The Home Secretary stated that the UK is enforcing its rules, saying: "When I said that sanctions would be imposed on countries that do not take back criminals and illegal migrants, I meant it." She added that her message to foreign governments is clear: they must accept the return of their citizens or lose the privilege of entering the UK. Mahmood is expected to announce today, Monday, in a statement to the House of Commons, an overhaul of the mechanism by which the UK grants asylum to people fleeing conflicts and unrest.
