Tunis Court Hands Down Prison Sentences to Former Union Officials and Private Printer Owner
The specialized criminal chamber for examining financial corruption cases at the Tunis Court of First Instance has sentenced several members of the former executive bureau of the National Union of Internal Security Forces and the owner of a private printing press to prison terms ranging from three to six years.
Background of the Case
The specialized indictment chamber for financial corruption cases at the Court of Appeal had decided to refer, in a state of detention, several members of the former executive bureau of the National Union of Internal Security Forces, including its former Secretary-General and other members, as well as the owner of a private printing press, to the criminal chamber for financial corruption cases at the Tunis Court of First Instance. They were tried for charges of qualified treason, participation in it, money laundering, and other financial offenses.
