Textile Factory Closure Shocks Employees in Zaghouan Industrial Zone
The employees of a textile factory in the Zaghouan industrial zone were caught off guard by a decision to permanently close the facility. The owner, a Belgian investor, announced his intention to cease the factory's operations and lay off all workers, causing shock and great dismay among the employees.
According to Hammadi Nahlali, the Secretary General of the Zaghouan Regional Labor Union, the factory's operations had been proceeding normally before the workers were informed of the owner's decision at the end of the day. This sudden closure is all the more unexpected given that the company was known for its stable social climate and lack of major conflicts.
The owner has notified the labor inspection and regional authorities of his decision and has committed to paying all financial dues to the employees. According to the information gathered, the closure is due to a lack of economic profitability.
