Tunis Court Sentences Refugee Council President and Project Director to Prison
The Tunis Court of First Instance sentenced, on Monday evening, the President of the Tunisian Council for Refugees (CRT), Mustapha Jammali, and the Director of Projects, Abderrazek Krimi, to two years in prison, with a suspended sentence for the remaining term, which will lead to their release, according to a judicial source.
Trial Details
The criminal chamber of the court heard the case in the presence of the two detained defendants and four other defendants who were released on bail, all of whom are employees of the CRT and were referred to justice by the indictment chamber of the Tunis Court of Appeal, the same source told the TAP Agency.
Charges and Verdict
They were prosecuted for forming an agreement to facilitate, aid, or intervene in the irregular entry of persons into Tunisian territory, as well as for housing them. The court ultimately sentenced Jammali and Krimi to two years in prison for the offenses attributed to them, while ordering a suspended sentence for the remaining term, the confiscation of the seized amount to the public treasury, and a fine of 10,000 dinars for each.
Acquittal of Other Defendants
On the other hand, it was decided not to retain the charges against the four other defendants who were tried in freedom, the same source said.
Background
Mustapha Jammali and Abderrazek Krimi were arrested in May 2024 and charged with forming a network, mediating, and assisting in the clandestine entry of persons into Tunisian territory, as well as housing them.
