Tunisia Reaffirms Commitment to a Just and Sustainable Energy Transition

Tunisia has reaffirmed its commitment to a just and sustainable energy transition, while actively contributing to international efforts to combat climate change, through projects that integrate environment, energy, and development, according to the National Agency for Energy Management (ANME).

Study on National Potential for Energy Valorization of Waste

A study on the national potential for energy valorization of waste in priority sectors, conducted by Tunisian and international experts, has yielded significant results. The study includes an analysis of successful experiences in France and Germany, as well as an evaluation of the technical, economic, and environmental aspects of technologies such as biodigestion and incineration with energy recovery, according to the ANME.

Workshop on Energy Transition

The ANME organized a workshop last Thursday in Tunis to present the results of this strategic study, as part of the project "Support for the Acceleration of Energy Transition in Tunisia", implemented in cooperation with the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ).

Feasibility Studies and National Strategy

Two preliminary feasibility studies have also been conducted in Tunisian industrial companies operating in the dairy and agri-food sectors. In parallel, a national strategy and a roadmap for 2050 are being developed to structure the development of this promising sector.

Objectives and Benefits

These efforts aim to accelerate the energy transition by introducing new sustainable energy sources, improve public health by reducing environmental impacts related to landfills, and encourage investment mobilization through a clear legal framework and market opportunities. They also contribute to the promotion of circular economy principles, by transforming waste into energy and economic resources.

Key Stakeholders

The workshop brought together the Director General of the ANME, Nafeê Boukari, the Coordinator of the Energy and Climate Pole at GIZ, Mouhammed Khaoued, as well as several representatives from different sectors, according to the same source.
