Earthquake Hits Western Turkey
A magnitude 4.9 earthquake on the Richter scale struck the province of Balıkesir in western Turkey on Sunday afternoon.
According to a statement from the Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), the earthquake occurred at a depth of 7.72 kilometers and had its epicenter in the Sındırgı region.
The tremor was felt by residents of Balıkesir as well as in neighboring provinces. No damage or injuries have been reported so far.
Last month, the same region was hit by a magnitude 6.1 earthquake, which killed one person and caused the collapse of several buildings.
