Turkish Defence Ministry Says Missile Launched from Iran Intercepted Over Gaziantep Province

The Turkish Ministry of Defence announced on Monday that a missile fired from Iran was successfully intercepted above the province of Gaziantep in southeastern Turkey.

In a statement posted on the social network X, the ministry said the ballistic munition, which entered Turkish airspace, was neutralised by anti‑missile defence assets and NATO forces deployed in the eastern Mediterranean.

A few missile fragments fell on uninhabited land in Gaziantep, but the ministry confirmed that there were no casualties or injuries.

“We reiterate once again that all necessary measures will be taken decisively and without hesitation against any threat directed at the territory and airspace of our country,” the statement read. “We also stress that it is in everyone’s interest to heed Turkey’s warning on this matter.”

Burhanettin Duran, head of the Communication Directorate of the Turkish Presidency, wrote on X that “all parties, especially Iran, must refrain from any action that could jeopardise regional security and endanger civilians.”

On Wednesday, a ballistic missile launched from Iran and detected heading toward Turkey was successfully intercepted by NATO’s air‑defence and anti‑missile units stationed in the eastern Mediterranean.

These missile launches come amid heightened regional tensions following the joint U.S. and Israeli strikes against Iran that began on 28 February. Iran responded with missile and drone attacks targeting Israel and U.S. assets in the Middle East.
