Tunisia Seeks to Explore New Perspectives for Strategic Energy Partnership with Algeria

Tunisia aims to explore new perspectives for a strategic energy partnership with Algeria, covering the areas of production, transportation, distribution, and renewable energy, said Head of Government, Sarra Zaafrani Zenzri, at the opening of the Tunisian-Algerian Economic Forum in Tunis on Thursday.

Key Areas of Cooperation

In her opening speech, Zenzri called for the expansion of Tunisian-Algerian cooperation in electrical interconnection projects and the development of joint investments in clean energy, particularly solar and wind power, to ensure the energy security of both countries. She emphasized that public and private enterprises could participate in the implementation of cross-border projects, which would benefit the economy of both countries and support efforts towards a sustainable energy transition in the Maghreb region.

Tourism Cooperation

Regarding cooperation in the tourism sector, the Head of Government noted that Tunisia has hosted over three million Algerian tourists by the end of October 2025, representing an 8% increase compared to the same period in 2024. She stressed the need to elevate this tourism cooperation to a level of "strategic integration and active partnership" by encouraging joint investment in alternative, family, and Saharan tourism projects.

Investment in Border Areas

Zenzri estimated that joint investment in border areas would enable the implementation of high-profitability projects capable of generating added value, thanks to the strategic location of these areas and their promising natural and tourist resources. She specified that the participation of the private sector from both countries in the study and implementation of projects in these areas would contribute to strengthening innovation, accelerating project implementation, and supporting the efforts of both countries to improve infrastructure, develop logistics services, and transform these areas into production and trade hubs.

Technology Transfer and Industrial Cooperation

On another level, the Head of Government emphasized that technology transfer and expertise exchange between Tunisian and Algerian industrial enterprises are essential pillars for strengthening competitiveness and innovation. She also stressed that the development of pilot border industrial zones, designed to host joint projects in manufacturing industries, renewable energy, and construction materials, has a strategic dimension for achieving economic integration between the two countries and creating shared added value.

Transportation Cooperation

Finally, Zenzri highlighted the importance of strengthening Tunisian-Algerian cooperation in the transportation sector and exploiting the expertise and geographical position of both countries. This requires, she added, the development of a joint plan to improve the interconnection of transportation networks and the study of creating cross-border corridors in the form of strategic economic corridors linking the main multimodal transport axes.
