Tunisia Commemorates the 77th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights
On December 10, 2025, Tunisia, along with the rest of the world, commemorates the 77th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the first and most important international document related to human rights. This declaration serves as a fundamental reference for universal values and a legal and ethical framework for the consecration of human dignity and inherent, inalienable, and indivisible rights.
Tunisia Reaffirms its Commitment to Human Rights
In a statement published by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Migration, and Tunisians Abroad, Tunisia recalled that this commemoration is an opportunity to assess the state of human rights worldwide, the degree of adherence to the letter and spirit of the Declaration, and to call for international efforts to strengthen contractual commitments, adopt national legislation, develop implementation mechanisms, and ensure justice.
"Tunisia reaffirms its deep commitment to the message of this Declaration, which establishes coexistence and peace among peoples, and its unwavering attachment to the human values enshrined in this historic document, which has made human rights a common heritage of all humanity," the statement reads.
Protection of Human Rights in a Climate of Security and Peace
In the face of escalating conflicts and humanitarian crises worldwide, as well as the deepening of development inequalities between nations, Tunisia emphasizes that the protection of human rights can only be effective in a climate of security and peace, and within the framework of a just and balanced international system, based on solidarity, mutual respect, and international law.
"Tunisia also reaffirms the importance of strengthening multilateral action and mobilizing the role of the United Nations in preventing conflicts and peacefully resolving differences, in order to consolidate the foundations of collective security and sustainable development."
Commitment to Social Justice and Human Dignity
Tunisia's deep conviction that there can be no compromise between rights and freedoms is matched only by its commitment to ensuring the essential conditions for a dignified life for all segments of society and peaceful coexistence among its diverse components. The realization of these rights is linked to the concept of social justice, and the state is committed to working towards equal opportunities, fair distribution of wealth and resources, access to essential services, and the fight against discrimination and exclusion in all its forms.
Hope for a More Just World
The emergence of a more humane society, aspiring to a more just world and capable of acting in the face of the international community's inability to fully fulfill its role, brings hope for a renewed awareness of the values of justice and dignity, as well as the inviolability of human life, without distinction of sex, race, or nationality.
Support for the Palestinian Cause
The people who have demonstrated around the world to condemn the famine, forced displacement, ethnic cleansing, and genocide inflicted on the Palestinian people have expressed their rejection of the historical and persistent injustice suffered by this defenseless people, as well as the constant denial of their right to existence. Tunisia reaffirms its principled position and unwavering support for the Palestinian cause and the Palestinian people in their legitimate struggle for self-determination and the establishment of an independent and sovereign state on their entire national territory, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.
