Tunisian Expatriates' Remittances Expected to Increase by 6.4% in 2026

Remittances from Tunisians living abroad are expected to increase by 6.4% in 2026, reaching approximately 7.9 billion dinars. These forecasts, presented by Lotfi Fradi, Chief of Staff to the Minister of Economy and Planning, during a regional workshop in Tunis, confirm that the increase in remittances in 2025 is estimated at 8.3% compared to the previous year.

In this context, financial analyst and economic expert Bassem Neifer stated on Thursday in the "Ahla Sabah" program that the announced figures are "logical" and "realistic", considering the evolution of fund transfers since the "Covid years". He also emphasized that, despite their significant value, these remittances remain "low" as a percentage of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) compared to other Arab countries. He explained that these funds are primarily intended for families or the purchase of real estate.

Regarding the weakness of these remittances compared to other countries, the expert estimated that one of the main causes is the "complexity" of the exchange code. He judged that the procedures for transferring money are not flexible enough compared to those of other countries, despite efforts to simplify them.
