Colonel Hichem Chaabani, head of the regional road safety department for the Center-West, stated that motorcycles in Tunisia are subject to the Highway Code and their drivers must obtain a category "AA" driver's license and are required to wear a helmet. Additionally, those who commit unauthorized overtaking are subject to the law, just like other vehicles. Chaabani added, in a statement to Diwan FM, on the sidelines of the opening of the 16th session of the National Road Safety Council's work, this Tuesday, December 9, that anyone driving a motorcycle without a license is exposed to major sanctions. He emphasized that motorcyclists in Tunisia consider themselves pedestrians, circulate on sidewalks, and do not respect traffic signs, stressing that the majority of them are not registered. The Colonel also noted that there are approximately 2 million motorcycles in Tunisia, of which only about 20,000 are registered.
