Tunisian Taekwondo Athlete Mohamed Khalil Jendoubi Wins Gold Medal

Tunisian taekwondo athlete Mohamed Khalil Jendoubi has won the gold medal in the -63 kg category at the ongoing World Championships in China, after defeating Iranian athlete Ali Haj Mousaei in the final. Jendoubi had qualified for the final without going through the semifinals, thanks to Jordanian athlete Mahmoud Al-Taraira's victory over the Chinese player in the quarterfinals, by medical decision, after receiving an illegal blow. In accordance with the World Taekwondo Federation (WT) regulations, the player declared the winner by medical decision is exempt from the next match to preserve their health. Previously, Jendoubi had eliminated several opponents on his way to the final, including:

  • Kazakh athlete Samirkhan Ababakirov 2-1 (6-4 / 4-2 / 3-11) in the quarterfinals
  • Hungarian athlete Omar Gergely 2-0 (13-1 / 11-10)
  • Russian athlete Maksim Osin 2-0 (10-9 / 4-1)
  • Surinamese athlete Bendjino Maisedjan 2-0 (16-3 / 15-3) It's worth noting that Mohamed Khalil Jendoubi already had two Olympic medals in the under 58 kg category: a silver medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics (held in 2021) and a bronze medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics. On the other hand, his compatriot Ikram Dhahri saw her journey stopped in the round of 32. Dhahri had won her first match against Hong Kong player Lam Siu Wai 2-0 (8-0 / 3-0), before losing in the round of 32 to Taiwanese athlete Luo Yu-Yun (or Liu Yu-Yun), ranked second in the world, with a score of (0-0 / 2-4).
