Tunisians with Dual Nationality of Algeria, Turkey, or France Can Now Serve in Their Second Country

Tunisians who also hold Algerian, Turkish, or French nationality can now perform their military service in their second country of nationality. This possibility is based on partnership agreements concluded between Tunisia and these three nations.

The Rear Admiral Hatem Soussi, Director General of Mobilization and Recruitment at the Ministry of Defense, confirmed this information on Tuesday, October 1, 2025, during an intervention on national radio. The Tunisian authorities recognize the service accomplished abroad by these dual nationals, and reciprocally, the three partner countries accept the service performed in Tunisia.

The procedure remains simple. The dual national submits a request to the country where they wish to perform their military service. Once accepted and the service completed, the country issues a document attesting that they have fulfilled their obligations. The individual then transmits this certificate to the Tunisian Ministry of Defense for validation.

For Tunisians holding other nationalities, the situation is different. Rear Admiral Soussi specifies that Tunisia has not signed a similar partnership with other states. The Tunisian authorities therefore prioritize the completion of military service on national territory for these dual nationals. "We prefer that they perform their military service in Tunisia, given that we do not have a partnership with other countries," emphasized the military official.
