Tunisian Dinar Continues to Appreciate in Value

The Tunisian dinar continued its upward trend at the end of September 2025, recording an appreciation of 2.8% against the US dollar and 0.5% against the euro, according to the latest data published by the Ministry of Finance. The average exchange rate of the dinar was set at 3.019 dinars per US dollar and 3.358 dinars per euro, according to the same source. On the international stage, the US dollar declined by 2.8% against the euro, with an average exchange rate of 0.894 euros at the end of September 2025, compared to 0.920 euros a year earlier, according to the ministry's report on the 2026 finance bill. This development marks a significant recovery of the dinar, which reached its highest levels against the US dollar in 2025 after several years of volatility linked to fluctuations in foreign exchange reserves, external debt, and foreign sector revenues. Despite a still fragile economic context, the Central Bank of Tunisia has managed to maintain exchange rate stability, contributing to limiting the depreciation of the dinar against other African currencies. According to the specialized website ABC Financial, this stability places the Tunisian dinar at the top of African currencies in nominal value against the US dollar, a performance all the more remarkable given that Tunisia does not benefit from oil resources or large high-value-added exports. The strength of the dinar is explained, according to analysts, by a prudent monetary policy and rigorous financial governance, which have allowed confidence in the national currency to be preserved.
