Water Reserves in Tunisian Dams Reach 669 Million Cubic Meters
The volume of water reserves in Tunisian dams has reached 669 million cubic meters, representing a filling rate of 28.3%, according to Anis Ben Rayana, an agriculture specialist, on Saturday, September 27, 2025. During his appearance on Express Fm, he added that this volume exceeds the one recorded during the same period in 2024, where reserves were 527 million cubic meters, and shows an increase of 56 million cubic meters compared to the average of the last three years.
Distribution of Reserves by Region
The distribution of reserves by region is as follows:
- Northern Dams: concentrate 91.6% of the reserves with a filling rate of 33.1%
- Central Dams: hold 55 million cubic meters, representing 9.9% of the total reserves
- Southern Dams: with their small size, account for only 1.7% of the reserves, i.e., 11.4 million cubic meters, with a filling rate of 18.4%
Rainfall Contributions
Since the start of the rainy season on September 1, 2025, rainfall contributions have reached approximately 22 million cubic meters, compared to a seasonal average of 69 million cubic meters, or 58.6% of the average, Anis Ben Rayana specified. The specialist also emphasized that precipitation has been below normal, with only 13.9 mm measured during the first 26 days of September, compared to a usual average of 21.9 mm, or 64% of normal precipitation for this period.
