Tunisian Customs Body Intensifies Fight Against Drug Trafficking
The Tunisian customs body is maintaining heightened vigilance in the fight against drug trafficking, relying on modern equipment and specialized human resources, announced Colonel Chokri Jebri, spokesperson for the General Directorate of Customs, on Tuesday, September 30, 2025.
Recent Operations and Seizures
During his intervention on National Radio, he highlighted the importance of recent operations carried out by customs agents, which resulted in the seizure of exceptional quantities of drugs. Notably, the most significant operation was the interception of over 572 kg of cannabis at the port of Radès, a seizure described as historic in terms of both quantity and smuggling method. Colonel Jebri also mentioned the recent seizure of 43 kg of cocaine in Sfax, which was deemed enormous.
Prioritizing the Fight Against Smuggling
Colonel Jebri emphasized that combating smuggling remains the top priority of the General Directorate of Customs, which now has state-of-the-art equipment, including X-ray scanners and specialized dogs trained to detect narcotics and explosives. This equipment aims to strengthen the body's inspection and control capabilities, allowing for more effective action against drug trafficking.
