Serious Steps Underway to Open Direct Airline Route between Tunisia and China

Anouar Chetoui, representative of the Tunisian National Tourism Office (ONTT) in Beijing, announced on Sunday that serious steps are being taken to open a direct airline route between Tunisia and China.

"Such an initiative would significantly increase the number of Chinese tourists visiting Tunisia," he estimated in an interview with a special envoy from the TAP agency in Beijing.

According to Chetoui, Tunisia has welcomed nearly 20,000 Chinese tourists until the end of September 2025, representing a 17.9% increase compared to the same period in 2024. The ONTT expects to record between 25,000 and 26,000 Chinese visitors by the end of the year.

He highlighted that this progress reflects the effectiveness of the Ministry of Tourism's and ONTT's strategy to strengthen Tunisia's visibility on the Chinese market, considered one of the most promising in international tourism.

Currently, the ONTT is developing a promotional action plan to better showcase Tunisia in various Chinese provinces. This plan will particularly highlight Tunisia's intangible heritage and civilization, which is rich in over three thousand years of history, through participation in international fairs and major cultural events in China.

Additionally, Chetoui specified that several meetings with Chinese travel agencies have already taken place to integrate Tunisia into their tourist programs. Working sessions with professionals from southern China have also been organized to strengthen cooperation.

The ONTT plans to organize a familiarization trip for Chinese travel agencies in December to introduce them to Tunisia's main tourist sites and national offerings.

"Tunisia will soon host delegations of Chinese journalists and influencers as part of promotional trips. It is also planned that a renowned Chinese personality will visit our country to contribute to the promotion of the destination," he added.
