Strengthening Algerian-Tunisian Economic Ties

Mohamed El Hadi Tebsi, president of the Algerian-Tunisian parliamentary friendship commission at the Algerian National People's Assembly, emphasized the need to establish concrete cooperation and partnership mechanisms between Tunisia and Algeria, as well as a precise calendar for their implementation, during a visit to the Export Promotion Center.

A Shared Vision for Economic Integration

In this context, he expressed the common will to consolidate economic integration and bilateral partnership, paving the way for a strategic partnership that matches the political relations between the two countries, according to a statement published by the CEPEX. The members of the Algerian delegation reaffirmed their commitment to intensify cooperation based on a shared and forward-looking vision, in order to strengthen integration and economic unity.

Proposals for Enhanced Cooperation

The Director General of the Export Promotion Center, Mourad Ben Hssein, presented several proposals to stimulate bilateral exchanges, including:

  • The creation of free trade zones
  • The signing of strategic agreements in the automotive industry sector
  • The development of cooperation in logistics, construction, renewable energy, food industries, and agricultural products

He also stressed the need to remove technical and administrative barriers hindering the fluidity of exchanges and to strengthen bilateral openness to African markets, while accelerating the revision of the preferential trade agreement.

A Strong Bilateral Framework

Meanwhile, Chedly El May, Director of Cooperation with Arab and Asian countries at the Tunisian Ministry of Trade and Export Development, recalled that elevating economic relations to the level of historical ties requires the establishment of a solid bilateral legal framework, promoting sustainable partnerships and contributing to economic integration through the regulation of transit trade and the development of border areas.

Deepening Fraternal Relations

Tunisian parliamentarians accompanying the Algerian delegation welcomed the depth of Tunisian-Algerian fraternal relations, materialized by recent reciprocal visits aimed at developing trade exchanges and proposing necessary legislation to remove obstacles to food security and consumer well-being.

A Shared Commitment to Economic Development

The two parties agreed that the current level of exchanges does not reflect the political ambitions or the will of the brotherly peoples. They emphasized the importance of creating a fluid and vital dynamic in bilateral trade, to make it a driver of common development and a pillar of Maghreb economic integration.

Trade Exchange Volume

It is worth noting that the total volume of trade exchanges between Tunisia and Algeria reached approximately 5.81 billion Tunisian dinars during the first nine months of 2025. Despite this significant figure, exchanges remain concentrated in a limited number of sectors, making diversification and restructuring of cooperation axes necessary, with promising opportunities particularly in manufacturing industries, agri-food, seafood, and the automotive sector.
