Woman Swept Away by Floodwaters in Bou Salem, Jendouba
A 50-year-old woman was carried away by the waters of the Dzira wadi on Sunday evening, following sudden and heavy rainfall in the Bou Salem region of Jendouba. Search efforts to locate her are ongoing.
Victim Identified
The victim, Khadija Atoui, born in 1969 and a resident of Sidi Abid, was caught off guard by the sudden rise in water levels while she was with her flock of sheep near the wadi, at the "Choubaât Enfidha" area. According to eyewitnesses, the woman attempted to save her four sheep before being swept away by the exceptionally fast current. The Civil Protection teams present at the scene have yet to locate her.
Cause of the Accident
The heavy rainfall that hit the heights of the Goraa mountain (Tibar delegation) on Sunday evening is believed to be the cause of the accident. The runoff waters joined those of the Msila wadi at the "Choubât Enafidha" area, rapidly flooding the location where the victim was grazing her animals.
Investigation and Response
Civil Protection agents reported that the National Meteorology Institute had not issued any prior warning. The Governor of Jendouba, Taïeb Dridi, accompanied by members of the Regional Committee for Disaster Management and Relief Organization, visited the scene to assess the situation.
