On December 8, 2025, Mohamed Ben Ayed, Secretary of State to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration, and Tunisians Abroad, received Charaf Ahmimed, Director of the UNESCO Regional Office for the Maghreb countries, who presented him with his letter of nomination.
Highlights of the Meeting
During the meeting, the Secretary of State emphasized Tunisia's constant commitment to supporting multilateralism, considered the best means of ensuring the desired security and prosperity. He praised the level of cooperation between Tunisia and UNESCO, stating that various government agencies, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Migration, and Tunisians Abroad, are working to strengthen it further. This cooperation aims to contribute to the realization of the 2026-2030 Development Plan, particularly in improving the educational system, optimally exploiting new technologies, and preserving, enhancing, and protecting cultural, natural, intangible, and documentary heritage. The ultimate goal is to empower young people and prepare them to face future challenges.
Commitment to Supporting the UNESCO Regional Office
The Secretary of State also reaffirmed the Ministry's availability to provide the necessary support to the Regional Representative to accomplish his mission under the best conditions.
UNESCO Director's Statement
For his part, the Regional Director highlighted the capital of trust that Tunisia enjoys with the various UNESCO structures since its accession to the organization in 1956, as well as its active participation in decision-making and position harmonization. He emphasized his commitment to strengthening the pace of cooperation between Tunisia and the UNESCO Regional Office, as well as to intensifying regional dialogue on various issues concerning the region.
