Tunisia to Experience Severe Weather Conditions Tomorrow
Tunisia is expected to face significant meteorological disruptions tomorrow, Thursday, with very strong winds reaching 100 km/h, stormy rains sometimes abundant, and localized hail, announced the National Observatory for Road Safety. These conditions will affect several governorates of the country, from Greater Tunis to the south, including:
- Zaghouan
- Nabeul
- Jendouba
- Le Kef
- Siliana
- Monastir
- Mahdia
- Kairouan
- Sidi Bouzid
- Gafsa
- Tozeur
- Kébili
- Sfax
- Médenine
- Kasserine
- Tataouine
- Béja
- Gabès
- Bizerte
- Sousse
Due to the strong winds, the Observatory recommends that drivers significantly reduce their speed to maintain control of their vehicles and be particularly cautious when overtaking trucks and buses, which can cause imbalances due to gusts. It is also advised to hold the steering wheel firmly with both hands and avoid parking under old trees, power poles, or billboards that may fall. In the south, visibility may be severely reduced by sand and dust lifted by the wind. The Observatory also calls on motorists to turn on their lights, including during the day, to improve visibility and be detected by other road users.
Safety Precautions
The Observatory recommends:
- Doubling the safety distance
- Avoiding sudden braking
- Gradually reducing speed using the engine brake
- Staying focused and avoiding the use of mobile phones while driving
Additionally, crossing wadis and low-lying areas are strongly discouraged, as the risk of rapid flooding is high in case of intense rainfall. It is also recommended to avoid puddles that may hide potholes.
In case of zero visibility due to rain or hail, the Observatory advises stopping in a safe place. Road users can contact emergency services in case of danger:
- National Guard units (193)
- Police rescue (197)
- Civil protection (198)
