Tunisia Hosts the Fifth Forum of Arab and Turkish University Presidents
Tunisia is hosting the fifth Forum of Arab and Turkish University Presidents, jointly organized by the Union of Arab Universities and the Union of Euro-Asian Universities, with the participation of over 160 academic officials and experts from various Arab countries and Turkey.
In a statement to Jawhara FM, Moez Chafra, President of the Conference of Tunisian University Rectors and member of the Executive Bureau of the Union of Arab Universities, emphasized that this forum represents a pivotal step in building sustainable and multilateral academic partnerships. These partnerships, he added, encompass the fields of training, scientific research, and university mobility.
The forum will culminate in the publication of the "Tunis Declaration", which provides for the establishment of an Arab-Turkish digital platform dedicated to the exchange of experiences, sharing of expertise, and coordination of research projects. This initiative will focus particularly on strategic sectors such as artificial intelligence, climate change, and renewable energy.
Among the main decisions announced is the launch of a double degree system between Arab and Turkish universities. This system will allow students to complete part of their studies in each of the two countries and obtain either two separate degrees or a joint degree recognized by both partner institutions.
According to Mr. Chafra, this approach represents a strategic move that will strengthen academic mobility and mutual recognition of skills between institutions in the Arab-Turkish space.
He finally recalled that Tunisian universities, like several Arab institutions, apply international quality and academic accreditation standards, including ISO 9001 and ISO 22001, paving the way for an expanded Arab-Turkish partnership in the development of innovative and competitive university programs.
