Tunisian Bank Card Market Reaches 5.85 Million Units in 2025, Up 6.6%
The Tunisian bank card market has experienced significant growth, with the number of cards reaching 5.85 million units in 2025, representing a 6.6% increase. Additionally, the number of transactions has risen to 164.8 million operations, marking an 8.9% increase, with a total value of 29,498 million dinars, up 12.3%.
Paradox: ATM Network Stagnates at 3,300 Machines
Despite this growth, the ATM network has stagnated at 3,300 machines, with cash still accounting for 75% of exchanged values. This reveals an incomplete modernization of payment habits. Card payments represent 40% of the volume of operations but only 25% of the amounts processed. This disparity confirms the dominance of cash for high-value transactions, despite the proliferation of low-value electronic payments.
Increased Card-to-ATM Ratio
The card-to-ATM ratio has increased to 1,773 cards per distributor, up from 1,660 at the end of 2024, representing a 6.8% increase. This is a direct result of the growth in the number of cards (+362,000 units) compared to a stable ATM network (3,300 machines, -7 units). This concentration may indicate a saturation of withdrawal points or a partial shift towards dematerialized payments.
Growing Use of Digital Payments
The 29,498 million dinars exchanged show a 12.3% growth, outpacing the increase in the number of operations (+8.9%). This translates to a higher average valuation and an intensification of digital payment usage.
