Date Farmers in Tamaghza Face Challenges in Selling Their Produce

Several date farmers in the delegation of Tamaghza (Tozeur governorate) are facing difficulties in selling their date production this season. In fact, only 40% of the harvest has been sold so far, while a significant portion of the production has not been harvested, particularly due to the lack of a packaging unit in the region, an essential tool for storing dates until they are marketed, said Karim Ben Chaâbane, a member of the Local Union of Agriculture, in a statement to the TAP Agency. Regarding prices, the same source specified that, although they are considered correct, they do not cover production costs. Dates are sold retail in the delegation at prices currently ranging between 5 and 7 dinars per kilogram. The mountainous delegation of Tamaghza is renowned for producing some of the best dates of the Deglet Nour variety, as well as local dates of the Motlag and Alig types.
