Tunisian authorities are planning to roll out surveillance cameras at intersections with high traffic density as part of the country's national strategy to combat road accidents.
The announcement was made on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, by Samia Massaoud, head of the Road Traffic Communication Service at the National Observatory of Road Safety, during an interview on the Tunisian National Radio.
According to Massaoud, the strategy aims to reduce road accidents by 10% in the short term, 25% in the medium term, and 50% in the long term. The increased use of road surveillance devices is part of a comprehensive approach to improve road safety in Tunisia and limit hazardous behaviors on major traffic routes.
Massaoud also emphasized the importance of raising awareness among young generations. The Observatory is currently developing programs for children's education and training on road safety to promote a culture of prevention from a young age.
According to data provided by the Observatory, there have been 464 road fatalities in Tunisia since the beginning of 2026.
The authorities continue to work on strengthening prevention mechanisms, improving road control, and reducing human and material losses related to road accidents.
