Successful Tunisian-Senegalese Medical Mission in Cardiology

A specialized Tunisian-Senegalese medical team in cardiology successfully performed six delicate mitral valve dilation interventions by catheter (percutaneous commissurotomy) on February 13 and 14, 2026, at Dalal Jamm Hospital in Senegal. This modern technique is an effective treatment for mitral stenosis, a cardiac pathology still widely prevalent on the African continent.

The Medical Team

The Tunisian delegation consisted of a team from the cardiology department of La Rabta Hospital, under the supervision of Professor Sami Mourali and Dr. Abdeljalil Ferhati, as well as a team from the cardiology department of Farhat Hached Hospital, led by Professor Abdallah Mahdhaoui, with the participation of Professor Rachid Mechmech. They worked in close collaboration with the Senegalese cardiology team at Dalal Jamm Hospital, led by Professor Abdoul Kane.

The Intervention

These interventions, performed using a minimally invasive technique, allow patients to avoid open-heart surgery. They are practiced under local anesthesia and offer rapid recovery and significant improvement in the patients' clinical condition.

Patient Care and Training

Dalal Jamm Hospital ensured comprehensive care for the six patients, from diagnosis to post-operative follow-up, including hospitalization. In parallel, the mission provided training for local medical teams to guarantee continuity and autonomy in performing this type of specialized procedure in the future.

A Significant Advance in Healthcare Cooperation

This initiative represents a significant step forward in strengthening healthcare cooperation between African countries and contributes to the establishment of modern and sustainable specialized healthcare services for the benefit of the continent's populations.
