Tunisia participated as an honored guest at the 2nd edition of the international event "Poli International Fest," which took place on May 14-15, 2026, in Bucharest, the capital of Romania. This initiative was launched by the Faculty of Foreign Languages Engineering at the University of Bucharest "Politehnica."
30 Memoranda of Understanding Signed Between Tunisian and Romanian Universities
The event was marked by the signing of 30 memoranda of understanding (MoU) between Tunisian and Romanian universities, including the University of Bucharest "Politehnica," the University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine of Bucharest, the Romanian-American University, the Bucharest University of Theatre and Film, and the Bucharest University of Music, according to a statement published on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Migration, and Tunisians Abroad's information and communication platform.
Tunisian Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Delivers a Speech
On this occasion, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Mondher Belaid, delivered a speech remotely, in which he praised the level of excellence of Tunisian-Romanian cooperation in the fields of higher education and academic research. He particularly praised the decision of the Romanian side to double the number of university scholarships awarded to Tunisian students, from 10 to 20 annual scholarships, as part of the bilateral cooperation program signed in Bucharest on December 8, 2023.
Tunisian Diplomats and University Representatives Address the Audience
The Tunisian Ambassador to Romania, Sami Nagga, the Director-General of Economic and Cultural Diplomacy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mourad Belhassen, and the President of the University of Gabès and representative of the Tunisian university delegation, Mahrez Romdhane, also addressed the audience. Their interventions focused on the current state and perspectives of strengthening university and academic cooperation between the two countries, as well as the importance of developing partnerships in these sectors.
Tunisian Presence at the Festival Highlights Innovation and Cultural Exchange
The Tunisian presence at the festival was also distinguished by the participation of the Director-General of the International Center for Digital Cultural Economy (TICDCE), Saloua Abdelkhalek, accompanied by a delegation of incubated start-ups. Through the Tunisian technological pavilion, the focus was on Tunisian innovation in the fields of digital culture and creative industries, in addition to the organization of workshops and a roundtable on technology and artificial intelligence.
Promotion of Tunisian Heritage and Tourism
Two pavilions were dedicated to the promotion of Tunisian heritage and national tourism, with the support of the Tunisian National Tourism Office (ONTT) and Tunisian doctor Souheil Hdidji, who is one of the established Tunisian competencies in Romania.
Tunisian Community in Romania Contributes to the Festival's Success
Finally, members of the Tunisian community residing in Romania, particularly students, actively contributed to the success of the festival's activities by participating in workshops and cultural animations, highlighting the richness and diversity of Tunisia's civilizational and cultural heritage.
