SNCFT Resumes Passenger Service on Line 13 Between Métlaoui and Tozeur
The National Society of Tunisian Railways (SNCFT) announced that passenger trains will once again run on railway line 13 – connecting the stations of Métlaoui and Tozeur in both directions – starting today, Tuesday 2 September 2025. The service had been suspended since 17 June 2020.

Why the Service Is Returning
SNCFT explained that the restart is part of the Ministry of Transport’s policy to bring rail services closer to citizens, meet mobility needs, and promote connectivity across all regions of Tunisia.
Works Completed to Enable the Restart
- Restoration of 58 civil engineering structures (bridges, culverts, etc.)
- Laying of 400 m of new track
- Installation of 200 m of insulated rails
- Welding and leveling of rails
- Consolidation of 1 100 m of ballast
- Full cleaning of the track corridor and stations
- Upgraded outdoor lighting at El Oudyen‑Degach and Tozeur stations
Additional Service Restorations
SNCFT also reminded readers that passenger service between Redeyef and Oum Laarayes resumed on 16 June 2025 after more than eight years of inactivity, thanks to the refurbishment of three train cars.
