Professor Mohamed Bejaoui Wins First Place in FABA's "Amina Ben Ayed" Award
Professor Mohamed Bejaoui, an assistant professor of pharmacology at the Faculty of Pharmacy in Monastir, has won the top prize in the second edition of the Fondation Abdelwaheb Ben Ayed pour la Santé (FABA) - "Amina Ben Ayed" Award.
Winning Research Project
Bejaoui explained in a statement to the Tunis Afrique Presse (TAP) agency that his award-winning research project aims to develop a rapid and simplified technique for detecting cardiovascular diseases, such as heart failure and stroke. This technique involves analyzing a blood sample and produces results within 15 minutes, allowing for immediate referral of the patient to the appropriate specialist for medical intervention.
Development and Generalization
He stated that he hopes to develop a prototype of this technique over the next two years through laboratory research, thanks to the grant. He emphasized that the generalization of this technique would require the involvement of international pharmaceutical companies for its manufacture and marketing.
Ongoing Research Project
Bejaoui is currently working on another research project aimed at providing alternative medications for patients undergoing chemotherapy or taking antibiotics while suffering from kidney disease. These alternative medications would not have adverse effects on the kidneys, allowing patients to continue their treatment safely.
