Tunisia Reaffirms Support for Palestinian People's Rights

The Permanent Mission of the Republic of Tunisia to the United Nations Office in Geneva has reaffirmed Tunisia's constant position in support of the Palestinian people in defending their legitimate rights, particularly their right to establish an independent and sovereign state on all occupied territories, with Al-Quds as its capital.

Participation in the Human Rights Council Debate

The mission participated in the general debate of the Human Rights Council on the human rights situation in Palestine and other occupied Arab territories, held on Tuesday in Geneva, as part of the 60th session of the Council, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday.

Condemnation of Genocidal Crimes

Tunisia also condemned the genocidal crime committed against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip by the Zionist entity, emphasizing that this crime is confirmed by the report of the International Humanitarian Fact-Finding Commission.

Call to Action

In this regard, the mission reiterated Tunisia's call to the international community to assume its urgent responsibilities to achieve an immediate ceasefire, lift the inhumane blockade imposed on all occupied Palestinian territories, end the famine, and allow the effective and safe passage of humanitarian aid.

Ending Occupation and Transactions with the Occupying Entity

Furthermore, Tunisia stressed the imperative of ending the occupation of Syrian territories, calling on all states and companies to suspend any form of transactions with the occupying entity, in accordance with their obligations under international law and the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice issued in 2024.

International Court of Justice Advisory Opinion

The advisory opinion, issued on July 19, 2024, concluded that the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories is illegal and must cease. The Court also emphasized the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination and sovereignty over their natural resources and called on all states not to recognize the situations resulting from this illegal presence.

Request for Clarification

This opinion was requested by the United Nations General Assembly to clarify the legal consequences of Israel's policies in the occupied Palestinian territory.
